PHY ED TEACHER
Position Summary:
Washburn Public School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered K–6 Physical Education Teacher to lead engaging, developmentally appropriate physical education programming. The ideal candidate will foster a safe, inclusive, and active learning environment that promotes lifelong fitness, positive social interaction, and personal responsibility.
Primary Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver physical education lessons aligned with North Dakota State Standards and local curriculum for grades K–6.
Promote physical fitness, motor skill development, cooperative games, and character-building through structured activities.
Foster inclusive instruction that supports diverse learners, including students with physical and cognitive differences.
Maintain a structured, safe, and respectful classroom environment both indoors and outdoors.
Monitor and assess student progress in physical development and social-emotional behavior; provide regular feedback.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and student services staff to support whole-child learning and wellness.
Effectively manage and maintain gymnasium and outdoor play spaces; ensure equipment is safe and organized.
Model positive sportsmanship, teamwork, respect, and perseverance.
Participate in staff meetings, professional learning, school-wide events, and district initiatives.
Uphold Washburn Public School’s mission to develop responsible, respectful, and prepared learners.
Required Qualifications:
Valid North Dakota Teaching License
Endorsement in Physical Education K–12 or applicable Elementary P.E. certification
Strong understanding of child development and best practices in physical education
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching elementary-aged students (K–6)
CPR/First Aid certification
Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, SEL integration, or adaptive physical education
Commitment to rural education and community engagement
Skills & Personal Attributes:
Positive, student-focused attitude
Ability to manage groups with fairness, consistency, and enthusiasm
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Reliable, flexible, and committed to professional growth

Working Conditions:
Active work environment with frequent standing, movement, and lifting (up to 25 lbs)

Paraprofessional – Alternative Education & Study Hall Supervisor
Position Summary:
The paraprofessional will assist in supervising and supporting students assigned to the Alternative Education Room and Study Hall, ensuring a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment. The role includes monitoring student behavior, assisting with assignments, supporting individual learning needs, and communicating with certified staff regarding student progress and concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise students assigned to the alternative education or in-school intervention room.
Monitor and manage student behavior in accordance with school policies and behavior plans.
Provide academic support by assisting students with assignments across subjects.
Maintain attendance and documentation for students assigned to the room.
Serve as a liaison between students and teachers to collect and return coursework.
Reinforce classroom and behavioral expectations set by administration and teaching staff.
Supervise and support students during designated study hall periods.
Provide encouragement and positive reinforcement to students.
Maintain a quiet, orderly, and respectful atmosphere conducive to focused academic work.
Support students with organizational skills, goal setting, and time management.
Report student concerns or behavioral issues to the appropriate personnel.
Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or 48 college credits preferred.
Ability to work with high school students in a respectful and constructive manner.
Experience in an educational or youth setting preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
Basic computer and organizational skills.
Must pass background checks as required by school policy and state law.
Working Conditions:
School setting; requires supervision in a classroom-type environment.
Requires patience, consistency, and calm conflict resolution.
May involve occasional physical assistance or crisis intervention training.

Looking for drivers who would be willing to do a bus route for the academic school year. Route drivers have rural and in-town pick up and drop off. Morning and afternoon. Route drivers also have the opportunity to be hired for activity events and student individual transport driving using school car, van, or mini bus and LARGE bus.
