Washburn Public School Weather Announcement
Dear Washburn Families,
With the possibility of significant snowfall in tomorrow’s forecast, we want to ensure everyone is prepared in the event of a school closure or late start.
• Grades K–6: Learning packets were sent home during parent–teacher conferences. Please have students complete these if we transition to a snow day. Teachers will send the specific pages to complete to their individual classes. *Note* Grades 5-6 can choose to do virtual or packet. Those teachers sent packets home same as K-4 this fall.* Reminder, that PK students do not come if we are 1.5 hours or more late but DO COME if we are just one hour late.
• Grades 7–12: Students will participate in virtual learning if weather conditions force us to close. Band students will need to check to their school email.
I will make the final decision regarding a closure or late start by 9:00 PM tonight or by 6:00 AM tomorrow morning. As soon as a decision is made, it will be sent via email and text to all contact information we have on file (just like this message). It will also be posted on our school social media pages and shared with KFYR.
Now is a fine time too to remind your students that they MUST have bus appropriate clothes on for cold weather. You never know when a bus could get delayed. There are still students not wearing coats and coming in shorts. If your child is in need of a coat, email me directly at penny.hetletved@k12.nd.us, and we will see to it that they get one.
Thank you for your flexibility and preparedness as we navigate winter weather in North Dakota!
Stay safe and warm!

Congratulations to Maggie Jennings on being named to the 2025 All State Volleyball Team! Great Job Maggie!

As part of the 58 requirements enacted for schools in the most recent legislative session, one key item was the expectation that all students K–12 participate in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance each morning. I’m pleased to share that Washburn Public School now begins every day with schoolwide announcements followed by the Pledge.
The true highlight, however, has been watching students of all ages step up to lead. Many have volunteered to make the morning announcements, showing confidence, leadership, and a willingness to put themselves out there for the good of our school community.
These moments remind us of the pride and spirit that define our district. Here are just a few photos that I've captured!
It’s a GREAT day to be a CARDINAL!
