Meet our Washburn Trap Shooting Coaches Matt and Mariah Knutson! Coaches Matt and Mariah Knutson live east of Washburn, near New Johns Lake, where they are raising their son, Milo. Coach Mariah Knutson brings deep roots in the sport of trapshooting, having grown up in Minnesota in a family passionate about the sport. She spent her high school days helping her father run the Monticello Gun Club and quickly became a very accomplished shooter, traveling across the country to compete in various state and national competitions. She looks forward to sharing her passion with the next generation of trapshooters. Coach Matt Knutson was introduced to trapshooting through Mariah and has now been active in the sport for over 10 years. He has shot at various clubs throughout North Dakota and enjoys the camaraderie of the sport. Coaches Matt and Mariah Knutson are excited to bring their knowledge and enthusiasm to the Washburn area as they help launch the Washburn trap team. They're looking forward to mentoring young shooters and encouraging local youth to get involved in this rewarding and disciplined sport. We’re excited to launch the Washburn High School Clay Target Team, focused entirely on Trap Shooting. This will be a fun and rewarding year as we build a safe, supportive, and skill-driven program for our students. On the first day of school there will be a sign up sheet for trap in the high school office. The coaches will be scheduling a meeting for all students interested in participating. A Trap remind group will be shared at that time.

Please wish our 4 lady golfers good luck in their first meet of the season! Olivia Schmidt Izzy Samuelson Ava Schmidt and Calissa Cleveland! First meet in a long time for the Roughriders! Southern McLean JH Football JH football practice starts Monday! First week is 3:30 - 5:30 each day on the softball field by the school, then it changes to 3:45-5:30 from then on. If you don’t have pads yet, show up at 3 Monday. SWAY testing (concussion) is going to be Wednesday at 3 in the old bus barn. Bring a phone that day if you can. Open house for grades PreK-12 will be on Monday, August 18 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM. Take this opportunity to meet with your teachers, drop off supplies, find your locker, and get any questions answered prior to the first day of school. Wow! What an amazing week so far for SMC Girls Golf! We have 10 girls so far and have had 2 practices and I’ve already seen major improvement. I am very proud of their dedication as some of them are out at the course practicing on the mornings! We are learning fundamentals as well as tournament and stroke play! Yesterday we had a terms quiz and played a scramble on a par 5 hole. I look forward to what the season brings! Coach Stacy Herzog

McLean County Band Camp kicks off tomorrow! 9am-Noon Aug. 6, 7, & 8. Camp concert Friday, August 8th at 11:30am - Old Gym or lower elementary playground depending on weather. If the weather is nice bring a long a camp chair. See ya there!
