Dear Washburn School Families and Community,
As we begin a new school year, I want to extend a warm welcome back to all of our students, families, and staff. The first days of school always bring a special kind of energy—fresh starts, new opportunities, and the excitement of learning together.
With that excitement comes an important reminder: safety must remain our top priority. Many of our students ride the bus to and from school each day, and it is critical that we all work together to keep them safe. Please remember:
• When a bus’s red lights are flashing and the stop arm is out, all traffic must stop.
• Give buses plenty of space and watch closely for children crossing the road.
• Stay patient during pick-up and drop-off times—our students are worth the extra caution.
• ALWAYS use crosswalks when crossing the street; don’t cut between the busses or cars.
• There is NO PARKING on the 7th Street and 6th Avenue during school times due to bussing pick up and drop off’s.
Our bus drivers are some of the first and last people students see each day. They carry the most precious cargo in our community, and they take their responsibility very seriously. Let’s all do our part to support them by driving carefully and attentively around school buses and school zones.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our kids safe. Here’s to a positive, safe, and successful school year!
With appreciation,
Dr. Penny

Elementary notes for open house: 5th grade - Mr. Lauer is not able to be at open house tonight. 6th grade - the school app has a different appearance than the website, so there maybe confusion about homeroom teacher assignments. Check with your homeroom teacher tonight to be sure you have the correct one.

Meet our Washburn Trap Shooting Coaches Matt and Mariah Knutson! Coaches Matt and Mariah Knutson live east of Washburn, near New Johns Lake, where they are raising their son, Milo. Coach Mariah Knutson brings deep roots in the sport of trapshooting, having grown up in Minnesota in a family passionate about the sport. She spent her high school days helping her father run the Monticello Gun Club and quickly became a very accomplished shooter, traveling across the country to compete in various state and national competitions. She looks forward to sharing her passion with the next generation of trapshooters. Coach Matt Knutson was introduced to trapshooting through Mariah and has now been active in the sport for over 10 years. He has shot at various clubs throughout North Dakota and enjoys the camaraderie of the sport. Coaches Matt and Mariah Knutson are excited to bring their knowledge and enthusiasm to the Washburn area as they help launch the Washburn trap team. They're looking forward to mentoring young shooters and encouraging local youth to get involved in this rewarding and disciplined sport. Washburn High School Clay Target Team – Trap Shooting
Welcome students and parents to our NEW TEAM!
We’re excited to launch the Washburn High School Clay Target Team, focused entirely on Trap Shooting. This will be a fun and rewarding year as we build a safe, supportive, and skill-driven program for our students. On the first day of school there will be a sign up sheet for trap in the high school office. The coaches will be scheduling a meeting for all students interested in participating. A Trap remind group will be shared at that time.
