Red Bird Robotics is off to a great start!
Our build team started assembling the robot, outreach is preparing sponsor letters, CAD/Design is learning the design program, and our coding team is diving into Drive Hub and block coding!
I hoped to start with 6 students, but we have 23 students ready to give robotics a try! We’re excited to learn, build, and grow together!

Youth Night at Friday's football game against Killdeer! The seniors recognized the Lignite Energy Council for their donation for the SMR program. We recognized the 3rd & 4th Rams, the 5th & 6th Roughriders, and the 7th & 8th Roughriders before and during the national anthem and starting lineup. Thank you to the Lignite Energy Council for their generous donation to the Southern McLean programs. The Lignite Energy Council provided football jerseys for the Coal Classic Showdown vs Central McLean. One jersey - #26 - was signed by the Southern McLean players and was auctioned online. The money raised from the online auction for the SMR jersey was given to the SMR programs today. Thank you again to the Lignite Energy Council and the generous supporter who purchased our SMR jersey!

Congratulations to seniors Lily Gardner and Jada Vetter for being selected by audition to the prestigious James D. Ployhar Festival at Valley City State University!

41 members of the Washburn FCCLA Chapter attended the District 4 Meeting today in Dickinson along with 11 other schools/chapters. What a fantastic bunch we have!

Cardinal and Roughrider Families,
We love seeing our students and families at our home football games! These events are a wonderful opportunity for our kids to support their classmates, spend time together, and learn what it means to have Cardinal and Roughrider Pride.
With that said, I feel the need to offer some clarity regarding expectations for children attending our home games.
We always try to have an administrator present at school activities. However, the administrator’s role at a game is to oversee the overall operation of the event—not to provide individual supervision or childcare for students attending the game.
We have noticed an increasing number of children coming to football games and spending most, or sometimes all, of the game playing in the large area behind the grandstands rather than watching the game. Unfortunately, we have also had significant injuries occur in this area when children were playing without adequate adult supervision.
Going forward, please help us with the following:
• No football games or throwing footballs behind the grandstands. Students who want to play football need to move across the parking lot to the youth football field and should have appropriate adult supervision.
• Students should not be playing or gathering in the trees. This has become particularly common with our middle school students and creates both safety and supervision concerns.
• Children who attend the game should be encouraged to watch and support the Cardinals and Roughriders. If they choose to play elsewhere on the grounds, parents/guardians are responsible for providing appropriate supervision.
Our goal is not to take the fun out of Friday nights or indoor sports such as Volleyball now and Basketball to come. We want our students to enjoy being together, cheer for their Cardinals and Roughriders, and make great memories. We simply need everyone's help making sure those memories are safe ones. The next football game, in particular will have a 2-hand touch football scrimmage at half time of 1st and 2nd Graders. That is a lot of extra little ones.
Please partner with us by talking with your children before coming to the game and by keeping an eye on them throughout the evening.
Thank you for helping us make our home events safe, positive, and enjoyable for everyone.
